Cary motorcyclist killed in crash identified

A Cary man who died early Wednesday morning after crashing his motorcycle into a utility pole in an unincorporated area near Cary has been identified, authorities said.

Lake County sheriff's deputies believe Clayton Ruth, 28, was traveling east on Fox River Road near Woodland Avenue at about 12:10 a.m. when his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle left the road, went into a ditch on the south side of Fox River Road and struck a utility pole.

He was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with serious injuries, and he died shortly after arriving, authorities said. The Lake County coroner's office performed an autopsy Thursday.

"The preliminary results of the autopsy confirm that Mr. Ruth died from blunt force trauma due to the motorcycle crash," Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said in a statement. "Toxicology results are pending."

The crash remains under investigation.
